Kevin W. Gerrity, Associate Professor and Coordinator of Music Education, joined the faculty of Ball State University in Fall 2007. Prior to his appointment at Ball State, he spent fourteen years teaching instrumental and general music in Ohio schools. Dr. Gerrity holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Otterbein College and Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from The Ohio State University. At Ball State, Dr. Gerrity teaches at both undergraduate and graduate levels and was the 2019-2020 recipient of the College of Fine Arts Dean's Teaching Award for his dedication to teaching excellence. His primary teaching responsibilities include secondary general music methods, introduction to music education, and graduate research methods. Dr. Gerrity's research interests include teacher preparation, the impact of policy on music education, integrating music and reading instruction, and issues related to adolescence and the teaching of secondary general music. Dr. Gerrity is the Chair of the Indiana Music Education Association (IMEA) Past Presidents' Council and is a member of, and/or similarly affiliated with, the National Association for Music Education (NAFME), the Society for Research in Music Education (SRME), the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE), and The College Music Society (CMS). In addition to being a frequent presenter at state, national, and international conferences, Dr. Gerrity has published articles in the Journal of Research in Music Education, the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, UPDATE: Applications of Research in Music Education, the Journal of General Music Education (JGME, previously General Music Today), Music Educators Journal, and other notable journals.
